These two photos were taken on the same day at St Peters on the Wall, Burnham 2011. This experience...to see a rainbow appear infront of your eyes out of the sea is one of the most awesome experiences I have ever had, and I managed to catch it on camera!!
This is one of the oldest churches still intact in Britain, it dates back to the 7th century. St Cedd arrived in Bradwell in 653 after travelling down the east coast from Lindisfarne to spread the christian faith. When he arrived he found the remains of an old roman fort. He used the stones to build the church we still see here today. Cedd modelled his church on those by St Anthony in Egypt. The word spread quickly and Cedd became very popular, he established centres at Mersey, Tilbury, Prittlewell and Upminster. Cedd would spend much of his time backwards and forwards between Lastingham and Bradwell. He died of the plague in Lastingham in 664.
For centuries after the church was used as a cattle barn and it wasn't until the 1920's that it was restored as a pilgrimage site and for worship.
The spiritual essence and energy is awesome...it is the first place i see my first 'spirit' manifest in front of my eyes. It is said to be one of the oldest and most haunted churches in England. The remoteness of the site combined with the untouched, deep rooted layers of existence allow you to sense those periods in time. It is a place of pure peace, tranquility and spirituality. A place to connect with your soul. It is a place of isolation and yet you never feel alone here. Almost a place that time has forgot.
