Tarot Blog - 6 of Cups Tarot Meaning and Symbolism
'Young & Carefree, remember your innocence'
The tarot card for our focus is the 6 of Cups. In the card we see a little lady being handed a cup full of flowers by a young boy who is much bigger than her. Almost a role reversal. However there are not just two figures in the card if you look closely there is another figure to the far left who is walking away with a staff in his hand. The other things to take notice of are the fact that the little lady does in fact have another face to the side of her head and she is wearing a white glove. There is also a cross that is very prominent. So what does all this mean?
The suit of cups deals with love and emotions. The cups have flowers growing in them. The absolute message is to become childlike again, to have the innocence and freedom of a child, to look back and not wish things could of been different, no one can change the events of the past or of our childhood. If you have trauma from childhood then now is a time to resolve any issues. As the suit of love and emotions the cups have been planted with flowers, this gives us two meanings. Firstly there are restrictions on how much can grow within the constraints of the cup. Secondly we must tend and nuture the plants to enable them to survive. This tells us to contain our love, not to force our love onto another but to give our love freely, to love without restraint.
I see the third person in the card as a protector (for me personally I see this as my main guide). I have the knowledge that I am protected by spirit no matter what. He is a gentle reminder that I may choose the pathway ahead and can change my mind at any given point (the cross signifies a crossroads). He does not interfere with my free-will, the choices I make are mine alone. I am strong enough to say yes or no. (Hence the two faces on the little lady, knowing when to say no too). I also feel the message from this card is 'to do no harm'.
The glove can signify the fact that you do not want to get your hands dirty, especially bringing up matters of the past, some things are better off left in the past. Cast off any fears you may have and see the importance of the here and now and enjoying life to the full.
